Fresh off the heels of Drag Race season 7, Violet Chachki is throwing herself into music as she launches her first five-track EP, along with the video for its second single, ‘Vanguard’.

‘Vanguard’ is the follow-up to ‘Bettie’, the single she launched immediately after the season 7 final, alongside singles from fellow finalists Ginger Minj and Pearl. ‘Vanguard’ takes on a moodier tone, both in its sound and its visuals, than that song, opening with a showcase of intolerance and bigotry.

The ‘Vanguard’ video also gives Chachki the chance to show off some aerial acrobatics and fetish-wear, naturally. “I love fetish because the line between right and wrong is blurred in a controlled, safe way,” she says.  “It is harmless fun that can really give new meaning to someone’s otherwise humdrum life. I also love the fashion!”

She also explained that the inspiration for her budding music career came from RuPaul herself. “She is so smart and talented. I love how she presents the entire RuPaul experience.  I want that for me.”
