This afternoon, Michael Turner, the owner of Frontiers Media and publisher of longstanding biweekly magazine Frontiers, announced that Frontiers Media is now part of Multimedia Platforms, the only publicly traded LGBT media company, giving the latter a valuable West Coast presence.

Frontiers joins four other iconic brands—the Florida Agenda, FunMaps, Guy magazine and Next magazine—that together represent 7.5 million readers in three of the world’s most populous LGBT communities—New York, California and Florida—and 40 cities across North America. Initially Multimedia Platforms’ five brands will publish 3 million print copies per year, more than Out and The Advocate combined.

For a glimpse at what is to come, Turner had this to say: “There are many exciting changes on the horizon, but I assure you that the award-winning content of Frontiers and its distinctive editorial voice will stay the same. Soon Frontiers will go national, Next will come to California, and in the fall we will launch a next-generation online media hub that will include unique and aggregated news, lifestyle and entertainment stories, social blogs and premium video, all curated specifically for the global LGBT community.”

Turner, now the President of Digital Media for Multimedia Platforms, continues, “We are creating a first-of-its-kind media company that will have global reach and influence. If you like, you can read the press release for more detailed information about the acquisition, but please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.”

California-based Frontiers Media is active in digital, mobile, streaming video, print and outdoor signage, and is best known as the publisher of the nearly 35-year-old gay lifestyle magazine Frontiers, which has received praise and awards since its relaunch in 2014. The company also brings a lively events business to the table with its active role in Style Fashion Week in Los Angeles, the LGBT film festival Outfest, Gay Days Anaheim at Disneyland, and its annual same-sex wedding expo.

“It’s an incredible time to be serving the LGBT community as the business world recognizes the power of this influential audience,” says Turner. “I’m proud that we’ll be able to vastly expand the reach of our content, which is produced by some of the most talented and respected writers, editors, designers, producers and photographers in the industry.”
